SIWEC’s Prison Counselling

by Sewadar

Volunteer with SIWEC’s Prison Counselling & After-care to walk alongside Sikh inmates on their journey of change - through weekly counselling and rehabilitation sessions in assigned institutions, and spiritual observances on key days like Vesakhi and Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Janam Dihara. When individuals return to the community, volunteers help with follow-up counselling, job search support, financial assistance coordination, and engaging ex-offenders in meaningful community service - practical steps that restore dignity and hope. If you value empathy, discretion, and second chances, this is a powerful way to make a real difference.

EDUCATION

Be a mentor

by Sewadar

Step into SIWEC’s Mentoring/Education schemes and help students from families on assistance bridge learning gaps and build confidence. Volunteers support the Education Support Programme by guiding children who are on SIWEC’s aid or the MOE Financial Assistance Scheme - through mentoring, homework help, and positive role-modelling - so they stay engaged and on track in school. You’ll join a warm, community-based effort where mentoring is part of a wider network of services, and where your time directly translates into better literacy, steadier routines, and brighter futures. If you’re patient, encouraging, and keen to give back, this is a meaningful way to make a visible difference—one session, one learner at a time.

Make a difference

by Sewadar

The Sikh Welfare Council (SIWEC) welcomes caring people to step into meaningful, community-facing roles with flexible time commitments. Prefer direct community care? Join home visits to befriend seniors (about half a day per visit, just a few times a year), or take part in the Hospital Visit Programme, offering friendly conversation or prayers on request (2–3 hours per visit, usually 1–2 times a month). Health Screening days also need translators and, ideally, volunteers with nursing/medical backgrounds—about half a day per event—so communities receive timely, understandable care. Want to be present for families in delicate moments? The Bereavement Support team serves with dignity and compassion through roles such as bathing of bodies, tying turbans, and driving the hearse (about half a day per bereavement; some roles occur 1–2 times a month). Training and guidance help you serve respectfully and confidently. Passionate about education or rehabilitation? Offer weekly tuition for primary or secondary students (about half a day per week) to boost confidence and keep learners on track. Volunteers aged 30+ can also support approved counselling programmes for prison inmates (about half a day per week), helping individuals rebuild purpose and resilience. Every role is designed with clear, manageable time blocks so you can give back meaningfully around work or family life. If you’re ready to make a tangible difference—at events, at bedsides, in classrooms, or during life’s most tender moments—register your interest and SIWEC will connect you to the opportunities that fit you best.
